How the Chinese doping scandal can be used to protect Valieva: the lawyer explained everything

Sports lawyer Mikhail Prokopets told how the defense of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva can use the situation with doping of Chinese athletes.

Earlier it became known that doping tests of 23 Chinese swimmers who took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo gave a positive result for the presence of the banned drug trimetazidine, for which Valieva was disqualified for 4 years

“As we know, Valieva filed an appeal to the Swiss Supreme Court against the CAS decision. We are aware that the Swiss court may overturn or modify the CAS decision in the case of procedural rules. I don’t think that Valieva’s situation will be affected by the fact of the case with Chinese athletes, which requires an independent investigation. Of course, if I were Valieva’s lawyers, I would present this case, provide evidence that WADA behaves this way towards other athletes. But I’m not sure that this can be a procedural basis for canceling the decision. Although, of course, the situation is egregious,” Prokopets told SE.
