US Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith said China is helping Russia achieve its military goals in Ukraine by continuing to sell products such as drone technology or gunpowder components.

The American diplomat stated this in an interview with Politico, European Pravda reports.

According to her, China is “choosing a side” and can no longer claim a neutral position in the Russian war against Ukraine.

“The People’s Republic of China can’t claim complete neutrality in this case, they’re essentially choosing sides. I think when the People’s Republic of China tries to portray themselves as a neutral party when it comes to this war, we’re not buying it,” Smith said.

The ambassador stressed that the United States is “increasingly seeing material support” for Russia from China, adding that these dual-use goods have played a critical role in helping Moscow achieve some of its goals against Ukraine.

“If they had not provided some of these components or this material support, Russia would have been in a very different situation and would have had problems continuing some of these acts of aggression,” she said.

Smith said that China provides the Russian Federation with “machines, microelectronics, UAV technology and nitrocellulose, which is used as a propellant.”

The ambassador added that there is no evidence yet that China provides “military support” to Russia, but the country provides goods that are used for both military and civilian purposes – and this helps the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine.

“In many cases, we see a flow of dual-use components that essentially allow Russia to wage this war of conquest in Ukraine,” she said.

Previously US Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized China for supporting Russia’s defense industry, saying that Beijing is now the main supplier of critical components for the Russian war of conquest against Ukraine.

Before this, United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen statedthat the United States warned China of the consequences due to Russia’s assistance from its banks and companies in the war against Ukraine, and is also ready to respond with measures to the sharp increase in cheap exports from China.

At the same time, the United States sees no evidence that China is providing Russia direct military support.
