The successor to the Mazda 6 is presented – Mazda EZ-6

The new product is a close relative of the Chinese Changan Shenlan SL03 (aka Deepal SL03), a car from Mazda’s joint venture partner with Changan. The filling is either fully electric or a plug-in hybrid.

The EZ-6 features an original front and rear end compared to its Deepal twin, while maintaining the overall body structure. The new product has a length of 4921 mm, a width of 1890 mm and a height of 1485 mm – 56 mm longer, 50 mm wider and 35 mm higher than the Mazda 6 sedan.

A related crossover is expected later, likely called the Mazda ZX-60, and will be based on the Deepal S7, which has similar dimensions to the Tesla Model Y.

The EZ-6 is the first Mazda to receive a fresh design with slimmer lighting up front, as well as full-width taillights, Mazda lettering centered on the trunk lid and a retractable spoiler.

So far, the only information about the technical content is that the electric version has a rear-wheel drive, and the weight distribution along the axles is ideal – 50:50. Power reserve is up to 600 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle.

Inside, there’s a 14.6-inch infotainment system, the largest ever fitted to a Mazda, a digital instrument cluster, a steering wheel with touch-sensitive keys and an augmented reality head-up display.

There’s also a 14-speaker Sony audio system and 64-color customizable ambient lighting.

Outside of China, Mazda has trademarked the names “Mazda 6e” and “6e”. This points to the possibility of an all-electric successor to the Mazda 6. But it will most likely be a very different car compared to the Chinese EX-6. The model for other markets could be based on the SkyActiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architectur platform instead of the China-specific EPA platform that underpins the Mazda EZ-6 and SL03.

The electric successor to the Mazda 6 will compete with the Tesla Model 3, BMW i4, Polestar 2, BYD Seal, as well as the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA EV.
