Oncologist FMBA Irina Oleynikova said that cancer can be caused by certain viruses. There are seven of them in total on the list, and, fortunately, Covid, which in the last few years has literally divided people’s lives into before and after, is not on it.

However, there are other common viruses around us that are friends of cancer. The Doctor Peter portal writes about this.

So, for example, the human papillomavirus, especially its types 16 and 18, was included in the list. Both are transmitted through sexual contact, which means there is a way to protect the body from infection. Otherwise, the uterus, vagina and even the oropharynx are at risk.

The doctor noted that the immune system has its own protective barriers that can suppress the virus, but they do not always cope. Thus, unfavorable factors are diabetes and long-term hormonal therapy.

In addition to the human papillomavirus, bacilli capable of causing cancer include hepatitis B and C viruses, which can transform into liver cancer.

Also on the dangerous list are herpes virus type 8, Epstein-Barr virus, T-cell leukemia virus and Merkel cell polyomavirus.

Moreover, the last two viruses are often found in people over 50 years of age and, unlike hepatitis and herpes, are in no way associated with AIDS, drug use or promiscuity.

The oncologist noted that with a strong immune system, the body is able to suppress viruses. Thus, proper nutrition, which includes excluding carcinogenic foods from the daily menu, as well as weight control, an active lifestyle and quality sleep, help increase the protective properties.
