CSKA Moscow head coach Vladimir Fedotov commented on the failure to purchase Brazilian Sao Paulo defender Wellington on the last day of the summer transfer window.

As CSKA Communications Director Kirill Breido previously reported, the army team had questions about Wellington’s health.

— For what reason did Wellington’s transfer fall through?
— We talked with the doctor – this is a medical issue. We knew very well that Wellington was injured six months ago, he had surgery, and we followed the player’s rehabilitation process. The player entered the field, and there was a segment where he even played several matches in a row. However, when we buy a player for good money, we need him on the football field, and not for conditional additional rehabilitation. That’s why this decision has now been made,” Fedotov said in a conversation with Sport24 correspondent Vladislav Shapiro.

This season, 22-year-old Wellington played 20 matches for Sao Paulo and gave 2 assists. The Transfermarkt portal estimates the value of the left-back at 3 million euros.
