The pressure on the French intelligence services is increasing as only 3 months remain until the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Details are reported by Politico.
French leader Emmanuel Macron promised that the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games on the banks of the Seine in July would be “a moment of beauty, art, celebration of sport and our values”. But instead, the solemn event threatens to turn into a nightmare for the president and the country’s security apparatus.
Previously, Macron for the first time allowed the possibility of moving the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games to another place, where athletics competitions would also be held. Officials fear the Seine, which flows through central Paris, is vulnerable to attacks by drones and snipers.
France has already halved the number of people allowed to attend the ceremony, while tightening entry requirements. But there is still a long way to go to calm. Adding to the fears of the French intelligence services are the tragic events in Moscow – the terrorist attack on March 22 at Crocus City Hall.
