The German Auto Motor und Sport, citing its sources, writes that the creator of many championship cars, Adrian Newey, will announce his departure from Red Bull in the near future.
Newey is said to be unhappy with the power struggle within the team and does not want to be sidelined by the RB17 hypercar project. He still has a passion for Formula 1, and although he no longer designs every cog of the car behind his drawing board, he defines its concept.
Officially, Newey’s contract runs until the end of 2025, when the Red Bull RB17 should also be ready. Negotiations on the sale are already underway with potential buyers of the super sports car. However, Newey is rumored to want to be free for new assignments by the end of 2024.
The question is, where will Newey end up? He was seen at Bologna airport. If this turns out to be true, then Frederic Vasseur will assemble a super team with Hamilton, Leclerc and Newey.
Aston Martin has repeatedly spoken about its interest in a contract with Newey. This would be beneficial for him in that he could continue to work in England. But he has been living in South Africa for some time and working remotely at Red Bull.
Newey could also be a deciding factor in Max Verstappen’s move to Mercedes, but Toto Wolff is in no hurry to make a decision.
