Voronezh “Fakel” lost on April 25 in the match of the postponed 21st round of the RPL at home to the Samara “Wings” – 0:1. In fairness, it should be noted the low level shown by the opponents in the match, with a lot of mistakes and a very lackluster game.

This defeat was the fourth in a row for Fakel. It is noteworthy that before the starting whistle of the referee from Moscow Pavel Shadykhanov, in front of the Central Stand, a celebration was held for that “golden” team of “Fakel”, which 40 years ago – on April 28, 1984, beat Moscow “Spartak” in the quarter-final match of the Russian Cup on their field. 2:0 and reached the semi-finals, where in extra time they lost away to Zenit from St. Petersburg. Sergei Savchenkov, Gennady Soshenko, Vladimir Ponomarev and other football players of that “Fakel” received memorable souvenirs from the club and went to watch football from the stands, but the content of the “Fakel” game with “Wings” certainly did not please the veterans.

This is how the head coaches of the teams assessed the result of the meeting at the post-match press conference.

Fakel head coach Sergei Tashuev:

— To say that we are upset means to say nothing. We really wanted to win, we adjusted ourselves, changed the formation, playing three central defenders. But the scheme itself does not play football, it is saturated by people, and we have a problem with central midfielders. There are no complaints about dedication, but the most difficult thing in football is to hit the target with the ball, and we still have difficulties with this. Something turned away from us today. The team clearly lacked creativity and skill. But everything is in our hands, there are five matches left, at least two of which we need to win to protect ourselves from relegation.

Krylia Sovetov head coach Igor Osinkin:

— In Voronezh, it’s not easy for anyone – the field here is difficult, take it as a fact, this is not a complaint, although two of our players were injured precisely because of it, and Fakel’s opponents don’t play on it as they are used to, they often have to simplify the game. Today, if we take the teams at the bottom of the standings, I think Fakel and Ural are comparable to each other, and Baltika is a little more interesting in terms of gameplay, but your team has guys who will get the required result at the end of the season, although there will be very hard. As for the game of “Fakel”, I still have an association with the team of Vadim Evseev and Dmitry Pyatibratov – it was powerful football, with pressure, rebounds, standards. And today, in terms of organization, “Fakel” came back, playing us with three defenders, which we basically expected.

After this round, Fakel dropped from 11th place to 13th in the play-off zone. And the Voronezh team will play their next match on April 29 away against Sochi.
