The new 13th and 14th generation Intel Core processors have performed very poorly. They’re causing games to crash for gamers all over the world, but Intel isn’t doing anything to fix the problem. In a number of countries, users are returning CPUs to stores en masse. Motherboard manufacturers have found a way out of the situation, but users will not like the proposed solution.

“Raw” Intel processors

Asus was able to solve the problem of the latest Intel processors, due to which computers crash and modern video games do not work. According to the Videocardz portal, it has released a special BIOS firmware for its motherboards, which really solves the problem of unstable CPU operation, but does it in a very radical way.

The problem lies in the top 13th and 14th generation Intel processors, in particular the flagship Core i9-14900K. Users who bought it littered the Internet with messages about non-working games – relevant topics, in particular, appeared in large numbers in the Steam service community. The games most often mentioned in such comments are Tekken 8, Battlefield 2042, Fortnite and Hogwarts Legacy.

Thus, users complain that games crash with an error about insufficient memory for rendering, although the PC performance in each case was sufficient to run the games. In South Korea, writes the ZDnet portal, things have come to the point of massive CPU returns.

Solve the problem with the help of others

At the time of publication, Intel did not respond to the current situation – its partners had to resolve the issue, and Asus was the first. The BIOS firmware of its motherboards forcibly reduces the performance of processors, and quite significantly.

Buying even the most expensive Intel processors does not guarantee stable PC performance

This method actually turned out to work – users have already begun to report that the latest patch has eliminated glitches in video games. But at the same time, it turns out that the owners of the new Intel chips greatly overpaid.

The patch for Asus boards activates the Intel Baseline Profile, which disables the Asus MultiCore Enhancement option and introduces a performance limitation. According to the Videocardz portal, as a result of this, the Intel Core i9-14900K processor, which in Russian retail at the time of publication of the material cost 70.5 thousand rubles. in the OEM configuration (without box and cooler, only the chip itself), it lost 8-9% of its capabilities.

In other words, the processor becomes noticeably slower after activating the patch. One of the positive consequences is that the maximum temperature of the Intel Core i9-14900K under load decreased by 12%, and the CPU itself began to consume 20% less energy.

Digitalization

There are several performance measurements of the Intel Core i9-14900K on the Internet before and after installing the Asus patch, and they all show approximately the same results.

Spending a large amount of money on a powerful CPU, only to then reduce its capabilities, is a dubious pleasure.

Asus has retained the ability to disable all restrictions that are activated after installing the update. But in this case, the stability of the computer in games and, possibly, in other resource-intensive tasks is not guaranteed.

Not Asus alone

Asus has released the necessary patches for most of its motherboards based on Intel Z790 chipsets; they can already be downloaded from the company’s official website. Other motherboard manufacturers are also working in this direction, since top-end Intel processors fail not only in computers built on Asus boards.

MSI is also currently preparing a series of patches. According to the principle of their operation, they, apparently, will not differ much from the developments of Asus – with their help, it will also be possible to forcibly reduce the performance of processors, as well as their heat dissipation and power consumption. Let us remind you that the latest 14th generation Intel Core chips at the time of the material’s release are almost no different in performance from the 13th series. It will be all the more offensive for users to manually limit their capabilities in order to restore stable PC operation.
