Technical experts from Digital Foundry again discussed the characteristics of the as yet unpresented PlayStation 5 Pro.

This time, experts touched on the advanced AI upscaler PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and automatic performance improvement Ultra Boost Mode, and also told which games can benefit from new technologies without additional intervention from developers.

According to DF, games that actively use AMD FSR 2including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI And Immortals of Aveumwhich on the base PlayStation 5 suffer from severe blurring in performance mode, as well as all games that have the mode VRRincluding most of Sony’s own developments, such as God of War: Ragnarok, Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Last of Us: Part I And The Last of Us: Part II Remastered.

However games that do not use dynamic resolution and which already run stably at a fixed frequency 30 / 60 FPSwill not receive any improvements from PSSR and Ultra Boost Mode and will most likely require the release of a special patch for PlayStation 5 Proto take advantage of the updated console.

Digital Foundry also thinks it’s likely that the PlayStation 5 Pro’s 45 percent boost in GPU performance over the standard model should be enough to address any issues that arise when the base console lacks graphics power, leading to aggressive use of dynamic resolution scaling.

In many of the current PlayStation 5 games, this problem is most pronounced in Performance mode, but experts believe that the improved console will likely provide a better experience in all scenarios.
