A remake of Total Chaos has been announced for 2022. The exact release dates are unknown, but it is indicated that the release will take place “soon”. The creator of the original mod and the new version, New Zealand modder and game designer Sam Prebble, better known as WadaHolic, https://twitter.com/wadaholic/status/1783063612090900584which will definitely appear this year “playable fragment” (possibly a demo). The author has not yet uploaded a single video – only screenshots are presented – but publishes short https://twitter.com/wadaholic/status/1781427459038351834 excerpts on social networks X.

The original mod based on GZDoom, which turns a shooter into a survival horror with hardcore combat, was released on October 30, 2018 after ten years of development. The mod instantly attracted the attention of fans – many still call it the most impressive among amateur creations for games in the series and note that it looks better than most projects based on the mentioned port.

The events take place on the deserted island of Fort Oasis with an abandoned coal mine. The hero, an unnamed coast guard employee, goes there to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the workers. Upon arrival, he receives a strange radio signal from a possible survivor. Over the course of six chapters (nine in the remake), players explore ominous locations, learn the history of this place and the character’s dark past. In the original, you need to monitor indicators of health, stamina, radioactive contamination, hunger and bleeding.

Gameplay of the original mod

In the remake you will also have to search for loot and make weapons from various debris. In addition, a special inventory is declared, in which “each object has its own important meaning that determines your fate in this unforgiving world”.

Total Chaos is available for free download on ModDB. A copy of Doom II and GZDoom is required to install it. More gameplay videos can be found on the WadaHolic YouTube channel.

Since the mod’s release, its creator has managed to found the studio Trigger Happy Interactive and, with the assistance of the publishing house Apogee Entertainment, release the cyberpunk retro shooter Turbo Overkill. The game was released on Steam in August 2023 and received “extremely positive” reviews on the site (95% based on 4.8 thousand reviews). In a review for 3DNews, Denis Shchennikov rated it 10 out of 10 points.
