How do HONOR smartphones differ from HUAWEI?

--

At the beginning of the last decade HUAWEI has created a sub-brand HONOR in order to expand the audience and, as a result, increase profits. For a long time, the student obeyed the teacher, but due to the imposition of sanctions by the United States at the end of 2020, the Chinese corporation was forced to formally abandon the sub-brand it had once created and sell it to another company from China, Zhixin New Information Technology. It seems that the paths have diverged, but how great are they now? differences between HONOR and HUAWEIand which brand of smartphones is better?

Positioning of HONOR and HUAWEI

Initially HUAWEI positioned HONOR as a youth brand. Firstly, the name is more harmonious (especially for a non-Chinese buyer). Secondly, the line of HONOR devices 5 years ago was noticeably narrower and did not include full-fledged flagships.

After the sale of the sub-brand, the situation changed. Now HONOR smartphones represent devices from a wide range of price categories. You can buy the inexpensive HONOR X8a, the mid-budget HONOR 90, and the ultimate flagship HONOR Magic6 Pro. The same goes for HUAWEI, which offers diverse models. But, by the way, the progenitor has more flagship lines: two series “Mate” and “P” (“Pura”).

Are there any today differences between HONOR and HUAWEI in terms of positioning your products? Certainly! After the sale, the HONOR brand came out of US sanctions and is now perceived as a typical Chinese manufacturer that actively cooperates with Western corporations (Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo and others).

HUAWEI is actively reducing the share of imported components in its smartphones

But HUAWEI, sitting under restrictions, is trying with all its appearance to prove that sanctions will only make it better, and proudly follows the path of import substitution. Do you install protective glass Gorilla Glass from American Corning? And we have Kunlun! Do you use Japanese Sony or Korean Samsung cameras? And we say formally American, but actually Chinese sensor from OmniVision! And so it is in almost everything.

Google services on HUAWEI and HONOR

HUAWEI was forced to take the path of import substitution, among other things, because after the imposition of sanctions, the American corporation Google, without whose products until recently it was impossible to imagine an Android smartphone, stopped cooperating with the Chinese company.

HUAWEI smartphones come without the Play Store app store and other Google services. This causes certain inconveniences, the severity of which directly depends on how advanced a user you are. An ordinary person will limit himself to games and programs from Chinese AppGallery store (regardless of Google products, the choice here is smaller than in the Play Store), and those who know will install Gspace on HUAWEI and continue to use the usual YouTube, albeit with crutches.

Although HUAWEI does not have Google services, all missing applications can be installed using crutches

The inconveniences are not limited to searching for the necessary programs on your own. It will also be difficult transfer data from regular Android to HUAWEI (you will have to install an additional program), and owners of sanctioned smartphones more often complain about the lack of WhatsApp notifications and other applications that are not available in AppGallery by default.
