Yemen’s Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement claim to have hijacked the Israeli cargo ship Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea. There are several dozen people on board.

TASS reports this with reference to the Al Hadath TV channel. He, in turn, refers to his own sources.

Presumably, the rebels towed the ship to the Hodeidah region.

Israel denies involvement in the ship and claims that there are no Israeli citizens on board. According to the Marine Traffic service, Galaxy Leader flies the flag of the Bahamas.

According to TsAHAD, Galaxy Leader was traveling from Turkey to India. At the same time, Israel called the seizure of the ship “a very serious event on a global level.”

The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Iran for the seizure of the ship. They clarified that Galaxy Leader is owned by a British company and managed by a Japanese one, with 25 people on board, including Ukrainians, Bulgarians and Mexicans.

Among the co-owners of the British company there is an Israeli businessman, the Times of Israel clarifies.

The Iran-backed Houthis have previously vowed to attack all ships in the Red Sea associated with Israel.

As Business Petersburg wrote, at the end of October, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that during the confrontation with the Palestinian Hamas movement, the Israeli authorities crossed red lines, and such actions could lead to retaliatory measures.
