Sun: British Navy nuclear submarine nearly sank in the Atlantic Ocean
According to journalists from The Sun, a nuclear submarine of the British Navy, which was armed with nuclear missiles, almost sank in the Atlantic Ocean. It is reported that the incident occurred due to a faulty depth gauge.
“The depth gauge on a decades-old Vanguard-class vessel with a crew of 140 people and Trident 2 doomsday rockets malfunctioned in the Atlantic,”
It is known that the submarine’s crew was preparing to patrol when the scales indicating its depth suddenly stopped working. The team believed that the submarine was in a horizontal position, but in fact it continued to dive to depth. The authors noted that engineers in the aft compartment paid attention to the readings of the second sensor and raised the alarm, while the submarine was already in the “danger zone.”
The Sun credits the crew’s response with avoiding the Royal Navy’s “worst disaster” since the Second World War. According to the publication, British specialists would have to carry out an emergency rescue operation to raise the top-secret ship and its nuclear reactor “before the Russians got there.”
Earlier it was reported that a fleet of naval drones began operating in the Black Sea.
