Travel planning service OneTwoTrip analyzed December hotel bookings and identified Russian and foreign destinations where clients will travel in the first month of winter
The results of the analysis were published in the Izvestia newspaper on December 19. The results showed that travelers are traveling home less this year than last year: The share of bookings to Russia decreased by 10.6% to 64.2%.
In December, travelers most often preferred to go to Moscow. Moscow accounted for 29.0% of hotel bookings in the country. Moscow is followed by St. Petersburg – 20.6% and Sochi – 12.6%. Accommodation in Kaliningrad (3.1%), Kazan (2.7%), Yekaterinburg (1.9%), Nizhny Novgorod (1.5%), Murmansk (1.4%), Irkutsk ( 1.2%) and Krasnodar (1.1%).
In the first month of winter, most tourists plan short trips of 1-3 days – 52.2% of bookings have this duration; 43.0% of tourists are planning a vacation for 4-7 days, and 4.8% of hotels are booked for 8 days or more.
Istanbul ranks first – 6.7%. Thailand is very popular among Russians: Phuket (4.7%), Bangkok (4.4%) and Pattaya (3.3%) are the three most popular holiday destinations for Russians in December. The top ten most popular cities also included Paris (2.8%), Dubai (2.1%), Budapest (1.9%), Yerevan (1.7%), Varadero (1.5%) and Tokyo (1 ,4%).
Most Russians are planning a long holiday abroad at the end of the year. 35.9% of travelers are planning short trips (1-3 days), 16.8% – for 8-14 days and 6.1% – for more than two weeks.
