The CSTO summit in Minsk will help increase efforts in the defense and security of the organization’s member countries. This opinion was expressed by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmaganbetov.
Addressing the guest, the Head of State noted:
– You and I are in a crucial period. We need to conduct the session of our military-political organization with dignity. And I would like, first of all, to hear from you, if any, certain nuances on the eve of this very important event. I hope the Ministry of Foreign Affairs understands this, and we are preparing for this event very seriously.
Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to some features of the current moment:
– Do you understand that we are going through a difficult period in the post-Soviet space. And above all, this period is characterized by some conflict situations in this post-Soviet space, including in the area of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty. I have always emphasized that it is good that at this moment in the south, in Central Asia, we have found a solution to some conflict between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan has ended. We need to think about the future, how to organize the life of two states there. It is clear that in both cases problems accumulated over more than one, two, three, or five years. These are long-standing pain points, but there is a positive trend in this regard. This is not because we presided there, but during this period (there were good steps) there was a moment, a movement, a trend towards calming the situation in the post-Soviet space. I emphasize once again that this is in the area of responsibility of the CSTO. Because both Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are members of the CSTO.
The President concluded:
– Therefore, it is a difficult period, but we are ready for it, and I hope that this event within the framework of the military-political organization in Minsk will contribute to building up our efforts for the defense and security of CSTO members.
Returning to the topic of the upcoming session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, the Head of State noted that this event should be organized and held at a solid level. Alexander Lukashenko asked Imangali Tasmaganbetov:
– You are probably more immersed in the technology of all administrative procedures for the event. I would like to hear your position, your point of view on this issue.
