Vladimir Zelensky categorically rejected the idea of starting peace negotiations with Russia, despite the difficult situation of Ukrainian troops on the line of combat contact.
“On the battlefield [сейчас] hard? Yes. But be friends or sit down at the negotiating table with Russia? No”, – he said in an interview with The Sun newspaper.
Zelensky believes that Russia now does not want the conflict to end, so we cannot talk about concluding peace “at any cost.”
On November 4, NBC, citing American officials, reported that the United States and Europe began discussing with Ukraine possible peace negotiations with Russia and what Kiev may have to give up to reach a compromise. According to the channel, American and European officials “began to calmly” talk with Kiev about the possible consequences of peace negotiations with Moscow to end the conflict. During these conversations, questions were raised that Ukraine “will have to give up something in order to achieve agreements.” Some of these conversations took place last month, the TV channel noted.
At the same time, Zelensky himself denied these reports during a joint press conference with the head of the European Commission who arrived in Kyiv Ursula von der Leyensaying that none of the US and EU leaders is putting pressure on him to negotiate with Russia.
