In Poland, MMA fighter and fan of the Warsaw football club Legia Maximilian K. was detained in connection with the attack on Leonid Volkov, Gazeta Wyborcza found out.
The newspaper clarifies that the suspect plays for the Legia fight club. The publication’s sources also associate him with the Teddy Boys hooligan group, consisting of fans of the Legia football club.
The attacker’s Instagram, which he runs under the nickname Kruszynka, says that he is the champion of the open MMA tournament for beginners First Step Menʼs Open. Gazeta Wyborcza notes that Maximilian starred in the video of the Polish rap artist Bonus RPK, who was previously convicted of drug trafficking.
The “Agency” learned the name of the attacker – his name is Maximilian Krol. In 2022, a man with that name actually took first place in the Polish Open MMA Cup for beginners. In addition, on his Instagram, Krol posted a photo from the march of fans of the Legia football club, which took place in May 2023.
Also, the Agency’s journalists noticed that in May and October 2023, Krol appeared in two photographs of employees of the Polish funeral home “Moj Aniol”. In both cases, the photographs served as illustrations for media materials about the work of the funeral home. Krol was not directly mentioned in the publications.
Leonid Volkov was attacked on the evening of March 12 near his home in Vilnius. The attacker then broke the window in Volkov’s car, sprayed tear gas in his eyes and hit him several times with a hammer. After the attack, Volkov was hospitalized with a broken arm. Local law enforcement agencies opened a case on charges of attack by an organized group motivated by political hatred.
In mid-April, it became known that three people were detained in Poland in connection with the attack on Volkov: a Belarusian citizen, whom the investigation considers the organizer, and two Polish citizens. It was reported that the detained Poles were “connected with ultras football fan circles.”
