What’s in the National Security Concept and Military Doctrine

Before the vote, the President of Belarus and Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Lukashenko drew the attention of the delegates that they would have to consider such strategic issues as well.

The head of state emphasized that there should be no relaxation.

The situation can change at any moment, God forbid, – the president noted.

The draft new edition of the National Security Concept was approved by the Security Council on February 20 last year.

Before submitting the document for approval by the Supreme Council, the President ordered a public discussion.

Over the course of the year, over 70 discussion platforms were organized in all regions. The document was also published on the National Legal Internet Portal.

In January of this year, at a meeting of the Security Council, additions formulated as a result of public discussion that were proposed to be included in the document were announced.

They were aimed at overcoming imbalances in regional development, increasing the level of social responsibility of business, additional protection of the traditional family, specifying the list of national security forces and conceptual apparatus, etc.

The new edition of the Military Doctrine does not provide for a radical revision of the provisions of the country’s military policy.

The defensive nature of the document has been preserved; the current provisions have remained unchanged.

The content of military policy is revealed. It is emphasized, in particular, that Belarus is a peace-loving country that does not threaten anyone, and attempts to interfere in its internal affairs and aggression or the threat of using military force will be suppressed using all available potential.

The Security Council approved both documents in February of this year. In accordance with the Constitution, they were submitted for approval by the Supreme Council.

Earlier it was reported that Lukashenko proposed an idea for Ukraine to the Russian Federation and the West.
