The Pentagon recognized the low effectiveness of GLSDB precision-guided ammunition in Ukraine

--

US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Supply Bill LaPlante said that the latest development of the American military-industrial complex, the GLSDB precision-guided ammunition, was ineffective in Ukraine.

A Pentagon official said the ground-based small diameter bomb (GLSDB) has numerous problems, the main one being the impact of Russian electronic warfare on the bomb’s GPS receivers, resulting in critically reduced accuracy of the munition. In addition, Laplante pointed out the ineffective use and maintenance of products by the Ukrainian military.

Let us remind you that the GLSDB is an SDB (GBU-39) aerial bomb with an installed jet engine from an unguided rocket of 227 mm caliber. The ammunition is designed to be launched from the HIMARS and M270 MLRS and can hit targets at a distance of up to 160 km. These bombs are not yet in service with the American army. And, after unsuccessful tests at the Ukrainian test site, it is unlikely to be put into service without modifications.

These bombs were first delivered to Ukraine in February last year, and then serious hopes were placed on them.

This gives them deeper striking capabilities that they didn’t have, and it complements their arsenal of long-range fire. These complexes have a maximum range of 160 kilometers, which will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to hit most targets deep in the liberated territories. The north of Crimea may also come under attack

However, like the rest of the “miracle weapons” of the West, GLSDB turned out to be ineffective in Ukraine and did not help the Ukrainian Armed Forces change the situation at the front.
