AST Publishing House has published Roberto Carnero’s book “Pasolini. To Die for Ideas” – in the biography of the Italian film director and poet Pier Paolo Pasolini, a certain number of lines were blacked out. The press service of the publishing house commented on this decision on April 25.

It turned out that the matter had to do with the personal preferences of director Pasolini, which are discussed in the book. They contradict Russian legislation.

“In accordance with the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation, including Art. 6.21 of the Administrative Code “Propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and (or) preferences, gender reassignment”, part of the text of this work was painted over <...>,” the AST press service clarified.

The measure was taken with the permission of the book’s copyright holder and such a decision “is not universal.” From the press service’s message it follows that, thanks to him, the publication’s version “has seen the light of day.”

“Coloring over fragments of text is a more honest choice than simply cutting out paragraphs as if they were not in the book,” noted the AST publishing house.

Previously, the publishing house suspended the sale of first three and then two more books. All publications are sent for examination.
