The writer repeatedly returned to the story of his beloved hero.
Mikhail Lermontov published the novel “A Hero of Our Time” in 1840. Over time, this work was recognized as a classic of Russian literature, and Grigory Pechorin himself became one of the main heroes of world art.
Lermontov also highly valued his hero. And therefore he made him the main character of his other work – the novel “Princess Ligovskaya”. He began writing this work even before “Hero,” but was unable to finish it due to personal experiences. The novel was the background to Pechorin’s adventures in the Caucasus. The book took place in St. Petersburg, where the main character appears as a 23-year-old officer.
But the writer did not finish and did not plan to publish the work. It saw the light only in 1882, after his death, in the magazine “Russian Messenger”, but is known only to researchers of the writer’s life and the most devoted readers.
