Don’t talk bad about Chinese cars. I answer, they have many advantages even over the Germans

--

Recently an article was published here about the disadvantages of Chinese cars, which created the impression that they do not have any advantages.

But these cars have advantages that, if they don’t tip the scales, can sometimes even them out.

I will say right away that I am in no way campaigning for the Chinese, although I have also visited many. I just want to talk objectively about the benefits they offer.

The main feature of the Chinese

Many Chinese cars today come with adaptive cruise control. In some cases it is even included as standard.

When adaptive cruise control is turned on, the car “catches” the nearest car in front of it, and, if necessary, it brakes and accelerates if the car in front of it does so. This is a very useful feature on the highway and in traffic jams.

I was only able to evaluate the adaptive cruise control on the Jaecoo J7, and I have no complaints about it. He smoothly picks up speed and slows down. Although a couple of times my foot reached for the brake before the car did.

There is nothing unique about the option itself. But it was always available in a limited number of cars, and was often offered as an extra. The Chinese install adaptive cruise in almost all cars.

Not a bad light

Most Chinese cars have LED optics installed, which just shine normally. These are not terrible halogens, but they are not advanced German matrix headlights either. Although, I’m sure they will be there soon too.

However, the eyes do not strain. The road is well lit, and the range of light in the city is sufficient. However, I can’t say the same for the high beam. It seems to me that Chery and Jaecoo lack it.

Speaking of optics, we can also praise the Chinese for introducing the function of turning on the PTF when turning. For example, when turning right, the right fog light automatically turns on. I have only seen this option on VAGs and BMWs, it’s nice that it is also available in Chery, Jaecoo, Geely and many other Chinese cars.

Built-in DVR

I believe this should be a standard feature on all cars. Unfortunately, it is impossible to drive on our roads without this device.

The main advantage of the built-in DVR is that the car owner does not need to worry about it. I just inserted the flash drive and forgot about it.

There is no need to attach anything to the glass (most recorders look terrible), no need to run wires under the casing and no need to think about how to power it.

But there will be a fly in the ointment. Some cars, such as the Jaecoo J7, do not have a built-in recorder, but there is a huge plug installed under the mirror, which even contains a fake plastic camera. For what???

Chery, Omoda and Exeed have the same unit installed, but only with a real recorder. I don’t understand how difficult it was to install a recorder in Jaecoo, especially since these are all cars from the same company.

Cars are constantly becoming more expensive, but even taking into account the rising prices, the Chinese offer a large list of options, so the recorder could be left.

The average Chinese crossover has dual-zone climate control, 360-degree cameras, wireless phone charging, CarPlay, Android Auto, a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, a large number of car settings, adaptive cruise control and a panoramic roof.

This is actually a good list of options. Other manufacturers cannot always offer a similar set of features, and if they can, some of them will be in the form of expensive add-ons or subscriptions.

And this is perhaps the main advantage of the Chinese, which is confirmed by other people when it comes to cars. The phrase “the Chinese captivate you with options” is heard very often, and for many this is the main argument when choosing a car.

Normal design

Today you can’t say about Chinese cars that they are scary. They may have a controversial design, some borrowed elements and just strange color schemes, like the red inserts in the Omoda C5. But taken together, the cars look modern and no longer cause disgust.

Remember any Chinese car from 15 years ago. Don’t remember? Well, they looked something like this:

It has already been three years since Chinese manufacturers captured the Russian market for new cars. And during this time, we can already see how Chinese companies are rapidly developing in design.

A simple example. On the one hand, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and 7 Pro Max. These are two popular crossovers in Russia. The first was released in 2020, and the second in 2021. That is, the first model is already four years old, and the second is three.

On the other hand is the Jaecoo J7. In China, it is sold under the Chery Tansuo 06 brand. The model is based on the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and was released in September 2023.

I don’t know about you, but I like the Jaecoo J7/Chery Tansuo 06 more than the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and 7 Pro Max. The silhouette became more interesting, retractable handles and beautiful optics appeared.

I made this comparison to clearly show how the Chinese have advanced in design over the past few years. I hope I succeeded.

Instead of output

I only talked about those advantages that I myself could appreciate.

Of course, they are not perfect, and the Chinese have something to strive for and something to improve. But it is considered wrong to talk only about the disadvantages in the presence of objective advantages.

For some reason, I have confidence that in a few years the Chinese will be able to improve quality, add even more useful options, and ultimately the cars will become better.

Remember how everyone used to laugh at Koreans, accusing them of poor quality and copying. A few years passed, and they were able to completely change the approach to creating cars. The same will happen to the Chinese.
