JAC X8 PHEV crossover unveiled in Beijing

The JAC X8 PHEV hybrid crossover was presented at the Beijing Auto Show. Production of the petrol version of this model should begin in Russia at the end of 2024. The car will be produced at the Moskvich automobile plant, and the crossover itself will become the flagship model number 8.

Let us remind you that, according to information from Chinese Cars, the release of the future 7-seater Moskvich 8 is expected in Russia in October-November this year. The current Chinese model has quite impressive body dimensions: 4824 x 1870 x 1756 mm. And its wheelbase is 2830 mm. This means that in size the car is slightly inferior to the Geely Okavango and Jetour X90 Plus on the market and superior to the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

Design of the hybrid JAC X8 PHEV

In Beijing, the original JAC X8 Plus was introduced as a plug-in hybrid PHEV. Despite the updated power plant, the appearance of the crossover remains the same. Its design still stands out due to its massive radiator grille with integrated LED optics. And the tailgate is traversed by a single taillight element with a pass-through design.

One of the obvious visual differences of the rechargeable new model is the presence on the body of an additional hatch with connectors for charging the battery.

The interior of the hybrid is also unchanged compared to the petrol X8 Plus. As a result, the front console features the same digital cluster of the instrument panel and central touchscreen, each 12.3 inches diagonal. And on the central tunnel, the role of the gearshift lever is again played by the transmission control washer.

Power point

It is known that the X8 PHEV hybrid installation includes a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine (H15RT) with a capacity of 152 horsepower. It works in tandem with a single electric motor. The total output of the power plant, as well as data on the transmission and the possible presence of all-wheel drive, have not yet been disclosed. However, it is already known that the maximum speed of the crossover will be limited to 170 km/h.

As a traction battery, the car will receive a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 19 kWh. With its help, in electric car mode, it will be able to travel a distance of up to 84 km. And in the combined cycle, the average consumption of 95 gasoline will not exceed 6 liters per 100 kilometers.
