Kia America has announced a recall of certain 2024 Kia Sorento units due to possible incorrect steering wiring assembly. An assembly error can cause damage to the wiring and result in reduced or complete loss of steering assistance. The problem was first identified on February 7 after the dealership encountered a complaint of unusual noises when turning the steering wheel and engine stalling in a Kia 2024 Sorento. Inspection revealed that the wiring damage was caused by friction between the wiring itself and the steering shaft. This friction can disrupt electrical and communication circuits, resulting in reduced or complete loss of steering assistance. At the moment, two incidents related to this problem have been recorded in the United States, but, fortunately, without consequences in the form of an accident. Kia dealers will be notified of the need to check the wiring on April 26. If damage is found, the wiring will be repaired or replaced. If no damage is found, technicians will reroute the wiring to prevent friction. According to Kia, 2024 Sorento vehicles built after February 29th already have properly routed steering wiring. The recall therefore affects vehicles manufactured between January 7 and February 28, amounting to a total of 95 vehicles.
