AvtoVAZ assessed the readiness of the new Lada Iskra model for production at 80%
The new LADA Iskra, the first public premiere of which will take place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in early June, is already 80% ready. Production of the model will start in early 2025, company president Maxim Sokolov told reporters on the sidelines of the congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).
“The level of readiness can be estimated at around 80%. That is, we see that the hulls are being assembled and welded. <�…> And, of course, it is impressive and gratifying that in such a short time we managed to achieve sovereignty over this new global platform, including it in a list of the basis for the development of the product line of our AvtoVAZ,” noted Maxim Sokolov.
Speaking about the start of production, the top manager confirmed that it will start at the beginning of 2025, but for this AvtoVAZ needs to localize several dozen more components. The total investment in creating the Iskra family is estimated at 37 billion rubles, he added.
It is assumed that the LADA Iskra will be equipped with an eight-valve 90-horsepower engine and at least two transmissions to choose from. According to insiders from Avtograd News, which has not yet been confirmed, the “initial” versions of the Iskra will get the same familiar “aspirated” engine with the VAZ-11182 index with a power of 90 hp, and in higher trim levels you can expect a six-speed manual transmission and The variator is quite likely the same one that has recently been installed on the flagship LADA Vesta.
The model should be based on an adapted and localized version of the French CMF-B LS platform from Renault-Nissan, on which the third-generation Dacia/Renault Logan and Sandero are built. Wide unification with them in terms of parts and components is expected, but there will no longer be direct use of Renault components – instead, AvtoVAZ will use its own parts and those provided by new partners from friendly countries.
Earlier, Auto News of the Day wrote that AvtoVAZ plans to begin assembling the first LADA Iskra trial cars in test mode in July of this year. According to insiders from Avtograd News, they will be produced on the same line where Granta is currently assembled.
