BYD Ocean-M foreshadowed a rear-wheel drive hot hatch – Autoreview

BYD recently introduced two inexpensive mass-produced models – the compact electric crossover BYD Yuan UP and a hybrid sedan BYD Qin L. However, another fresh exhibit was prepared for the Beijing Motor Show – this is the spectacular BYD Ocean-M hatchback.

For now, this is just a concept, but soon it will turn into a production car, just as the Ocean-X show car became a production BYD Seal sedan a couple of years ago. The new Ocean-M stands out for its bright and even pretentious appearance: contrasting color, aggressive aerodynamic body kit with a massive two-section wing at the stern. Alfa Romeo-style wheels also attract attention. It is quite possible that this is just an exhibition marafet, however, in order to adequately compete with powerful hatchbacks MG 4 XPower And Volkswagen ID.3 GTX, extra shocking will not hurt. Moreover, even rear view cameras may migrate to a production car instead of side mirrors, because this is no longer a curiosity on Chinese cars.

The future BYD Ocean-M in civilian form will be located between popular models Dolphin And Seal. It will be built on a modular electric platform with basic rear-wheel drive. Powerful electric motors and exciting handling are promised, but company representatives have not yet gone into any technical details.

But they promised a tempting (even for the Chinese market) price range: from 150 to 200 thousand yuan (20-28 thousand dollars). This competitive price could also come in handy on the European continent, as BYD is now looking for ways to expand the export of its electric vehicles.
