Rescuers pulled a mother and child out of the fire.

Omsk resident Anastasia and her son came to the fire and rescue department with words of gratitude. The meeting was arranged in advance – the woman called the unit after being discharged from the hospital. She was met by the team that saved the lives of Anastasia Shikova and her son that night.

On the night of February 28, a nine-story building caught fire. The dispatcher received a call from eyewitnesses at two o’clock in the morning; 8 vehicles and 34 firefighters rushed to the scene. Some rescuers fought the fire inside the house, others outside, using a ladder truck. Most of the residents evacuated on their own, but 23 people could not have managed it without rescuers – they fell into a smoke trap. Among them were Anastasia and her 11-year-old son Artem.

For some reason, the woman woke up at night and, when she saw a fire in the corridor, woke up her son and took him to the balcony. And she closed the door to deprive the approaching fire of oxygen. I planned to leave through the front door, but the flames very quickly spread along the ceiling and walls. Because of this, the woman was unable to return to the balcony where her son remained, and rushed into the kitchen, which the fire had not yet reached.

“The flames were raging behind me, I opened the window and I don’t remember how I jumped from the windowsill to the balcony. At that moment, I didn’t think about myself, although the fire was already burning me greatly, I was thinking about my child, who stood alone and cried. He called me, it was very scary. I grabbed the railing tightly, and then told Artem to climb over to me too, – remembers Anastasia.

At that moment, the people standing below pulled the blanket and persuaded the fire victims to jump, but the woman did not take any risks and completely trusted the rescuers – she was sure that the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees would do everything possible. By that time, firefighters had already begun to deploy the ladder truck.

Everything happened very quickly, the flames broke the glass in the kitchen window at the very moment when the woman jumped onto the balcony. While the smoke protection team helped the rest of those trapped in the house to get out of the house, rescuers climbed up the ladder to the mother and son.

“Kirill Klimov helped the boy go down, Ilyas Ginayatulin protected his mother and son from the fire with his back, Andrei Sadovnikov led the actions of the unit, and the driver of the ladder truck, Vladimir Grishkov, quickly coped with the difficult tasks at the house. Thanks to the well-coordinated work of our employees and the correct actions of my mother, Anastasia, everything ended well, — told deputy head of the fifth fire and rescue unit Anton Kurbatov.

The woman and her son inhaled smoke; in addition, Anastasia was found to have severe burns to her body and upper respiratory tract. Doctors released Artem from the hospital after a short time, but his mother needed almost a month to recover. All this time she thought that the miracle and professionalism of the rescuers helped save her. She publicly thanked her rescuers so that everyone would know how these guys risk their lives for others.

The firefighters did not immediately let the guests go – they gave Anastasia and Artyom a tour of the unit, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

“I really want the selfless work of firefighters to be appreciated. Come, thank your saviors. I hope that the work of firefighters will be noted, and this case with us will not go unnoticed,” Anastasia Shikova emphasized.
