Rostov-on-Don will compete for the title of cultural capital of Russia 2026

Rostov region, April 24, 2024. DON24.RU. Rostov-on-Don has become one of the contenders for the title of cultural capital of Russia in 2026. Voting is already open on the State Services portal.

The competition is held to support the cultural development of the regions and show their tourism and economic potential. In total, 26 cities are participating in the popular vote, including, for example, Vladivostok, Chita, Izhevsk, Murmansk, Nalchik, Tambov and others.

Voting will take place in two directions: popular vote and expert assessment. The first stage began on April 17. The second stage will begin on September 12, and the winner will be announced on December 12.

“The title “Cultural Capital of the Year” provides new opportunities for the socio-economic and cultural development of the city: it will become a point of attraction for tourists, potential investors and partners,” the State Services portal says.

To date, 459 people have voted for the Don capital. The leaders are Smolensk (2343 votes), Pskov (1410 votes) and Zaraysk (1060 votes).

It should be noted that Nizhny Novgorod was chosen as the cultural capital of 2024, and Grozny in 2025. In the latter, it is planned to restore and reconstruct objects of historical heritage and culture, develop new tourist routes and present federal and international events in theaters and cultural spaces.
