April 24. The implementation of the “General Cleaning” project within the framework of the national project “Ecology” was discussed in the regional government. The meeting was chaired by the Governor of the Magadan Region, Sergei Nosov. Heads of relevant departments took part in the discussion, the press service of the Government of the Magadan Region told MagadanMedia.

As the head of the regional fisheries department, Andrei Tabolin, reported to the governor, the Neva ship repair plant, which weighs more than 2,000 tons, continues to be lifted in Nagaev Bay. At the moment, the surface part of the Neva has been completely cut off; everything that is under water will be removed after the ice melts. Also, by the end of May, MB 407, which was removed from the waters of the commercial port of Magadan last year, will be completely removed from the Sea of Okhotsk.

“The tasks set for this winter have been completed. By July of this year, it is necessary to resolve the issue with the Neva shipyard and remove it from the water area,” instructed the head of the region, Sergei Nosov.

As the governor previously noted, clearing the water area is not only a matter of improving the environment. The task is to ensure the safe movement of ships in the bay, taking into account the modernization and creation of two facilities – the Fishing Port and the Marine Tourist Center.

Both structures will complement the “sea façade” of Magadan, will revive maritime cargo turnover, including through the transshipment of fish products caught in the open sea, will ensure the realization of the investment potential of Kolyma, and will increase the tourist attractiveness of the region.

Earlier, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, in his report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers, noted the capital of Kolyma in the light of the implementation of the federal project “General Cleaning”. The project, designed to eliminate environmentally hazardous objects, including from the seas, was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I often remember my trips to the Far East, the Urals, Siberia, and other regions. And I noticed that next to beautiful nature, modern enterprises, infrastructure, some kind of project, there is often, excuse me, a lot of dirt, abandoned landfills, sunken ships But everyone likes to live in a clean, well-groomed, comfortable place. We discussed these issues during my trip to Magadan in 2020,” noted the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

According to Mikhail Mishustin, the “General Cleaning” project made it possible to eliminate more than 200 landfills in the country and dispose of 131 sunken ships. This made it possible to protect the health of millions of people, the Prime Minister concluded.

The Magadan region became a pilot region where this federal project started in 2021. Over the course of three years, more than 20 sunken objects of various types and classes, including large fishing trawlers, were removed from the bottom of Nagaev Bay. Work continues to clear the bay of sunken and abandoned ships.
