In Moscow clinics, artificial intelligence will analyze X-ray images of patients without the participation of a doctor. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced this.
“In Moscow clinics, artificial intelligence will analyze X-rays without the participation of a doctor <...> Given the vast accumulated experience in this area, smart algorithms are able to accurately determine the absence of signs of disease,” the mayor noted.
An average of two million chest x-rays and chest x-rays are performed annually, most of them for preventive purposes. For example, in 99% of fluorographs no pathologies are detected, and doctors are engaged in describing the “norm,” added Sergei Sobyanin.
In order to transfer the analysis and description of studies to AI services configured for maximum sensitivity, a special compulsory medical insurance tariff was introduced.
If the image shows no signs of disease, the conclusion from the neural network will automatically appear in the patient’s electronic medical record. If the AI finds a deviation from the norm, the description will be sent to doctors. In this case, the patient will receive a specialist’s opinion within 24 hours.
It is planned that with the help of artificial intelligence the description of studies will be accelerated and the accuracy of diagnosis will increase.
For additional guarantee, from May to September, the conclusions generated by the AI independently will be checked by leading radiologists in Russia. Within two days, the medical record will receive a medical report from the doctor.
By the end of the year, experts will draw conclusions about the safety of using neural networks without the participation of a doctor. If successful, AI technologies will be left to work autonomously on a permanent basis.
