At the Irkutsk Regional Musical Theater named after N.M. Zagursky prepared a new play “About Fedot the Archer”. The musical comedy is based on a popular play by poet, playwright and actor Leonid Filatov, reports the press service of the government of the Irkutsk region.

Premiere of the play “About Fedot the Archer” will take place on April 27 on the main stage of the Irkutsk Musical Theatre. Until the end of the season, the performance can be seen on May 1 and 11, as well as June 6.

Anastasia Grinenko, chief director of the Irkutsk Musical Theater, author of the libretto:
“The author defined the genre of the work as a “fairy tale for the theater,” so we decided to play the story in a theatrical sense, to focus on who tells it and how. The main characters will be traveling artists who, in their performances, skillfully combine bright folklore motifs and the enthusiasm of youth and modernity. And here the ensemble is very important, the storytellers themselves as individuals are important. Each has its own character, which makes the image multi-layered. Thanks to this, the story becomes alive and even unexpected in some sense.

According to the plot of the play, the adventures unfold in the museum at the Circum-Baikal Railway station. A troupe of young actors does not have time to leave the institution before closing and is forced to spend the night among the exhibits. In order not to get bored, they decide to put on a performance with a traditional folk plot: the stupid king, wanting to destroy Fedot and marry his beloved Marusa, comes up with treacherous tests for him. The last of which – getting “That-Fat-Can’t-Be” – seems completely impossible.

Leonid Filatov’s original text is preserved in almost all compositions. Especially for the play, Anastasia Grinenko wrote in more detail the romantic story of Fedot and his wife Marusya. The dialogues of the master of subtle satire Leonid Filatov will take on a new sound thanks to a variety of music and original interpretation. Composer Ilya Polyakov from Minsk wrote a musical score for the performance in fusion style. It combines folk motifs, chanson, gypsy songs, rap, rock, and modern ballads.
