An organized crime group of window installers worked in Yaroslavl

They deceived lonely pensioners.

The police said that the organized crime group included four men born between 1995 and 1998. First, a call center was created, and then from April 2020 to August 2022, using a previously found database with phone numbers and addresses of elderly citizens living alone, the group began to “work.” Pensioners were informed by telephone about an allegedly existing municipal program for free diagnostics of windows, balconies and other PVC products with mandatory inspection by a specialist at home. Members of the organized crime group came to apartments and convinced elderly people that they had the right to compensation for the money paid for replacing windows.

Next, an agreement was drawn up, pensioners were charged from 30 to 80 thousand rubles in cash, and then they were given “compensation” for 75% of the cost of the windows – a fake certificate. Minor work was then carried out at disproportionate cost.

“Later, under various pretexts, such as the need for additional repair work, paying taxes to receive compensation, pensioners were deceived into making additional payments. If the victims realized that they had been deceived and asked to return the money and not provide them with a service, then they stopped contacting them.”– said the regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

A total of 8 people suffered from the actions of members of an organized crime group of window installers, and the amount of damage amounted to 1 million 518 thousand 930 rubles. The police added that due to their advanced age, three of the victims died during the investigation. The investigation has now been completed. The criminal case has been sent to court for consideration.
