Nizhny Novgorod. April 24. NTA-Volga region – More than 850 drug crimes have been detected since the beginning of the year in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region reported.

According to information, on April 23, a press conference was held with the head of the Criminal Code of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, police colonel Dmitry Filatov, who spoke about the drug situation in the region.

According to him, over the past year, law enforcement officers seized almost 263.5 kg of narcotic and psychotropic substances from illicit trafficking, and also prosecuted 1,003 citizens.

“Based on the results of monitoring for 2023, the drug situation in the Nizhny Novgorod region is assessed as “neutral,” said Dmitry Filatov.

The colonel added that in 2023, in the region, police solved just over 2.8 thousand drug crimes, of which 2.2 thousand were serious and especially serious, which is 81.5% more than the 2022 level.

Crimes related to the illegal sale of drugs (2007), money laundering (3), committed in groups (1840) and as part of a criminal community (1) were also revealed.

At the same time, in the first quarter of 2024, police officers have already identified 852 drug crimes in the region, of which 682 are classified as serious and especially serious, 600 are related to the illegal sale of drugs, 13 are related to the organization and maintenance of drug dens.

Among the achievements of the drug police, the colonel highlighted the seizure of 185 kg of narcotic drugs and the suppression of the activities of a drug laboratory in Lukoyanov, as well as the detention of three natives of neighboring countries who were trying to sell 300 packages of substances.

It is noted that in addition to operational search activities, active work is being carried out to prevent drug crimes and the spread of drug addiction among young people.

“In 2023, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, with the support of the ministries of education and science, health, sports, culture, social policy, municipal administrations, organized and carried out interdepartmental operational and preventive operations and campaigns: “Children of Russia”, “Conscript”, “Tell me where “trade in death,” a set of events dedicated to the International Day Against Drug Addiction,” said Dmitry Filatov.

Also implemented by UKON, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the region conducted a number of educational anti-drug projects, including “Everyone should know this”, “Healthy Summer” and “Inter-university anti-drug volunteer squad”. In total, about 16.3 thousand such events were held over the past year.

It was previously reported that the “Tell me where they sell death” campaign is taking place in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
