Retail chains in Russia began to sell more newspapers and magazines. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov.

Those who had not previously worked with printed materials introduced it. In chains where assortment was reduced, it returned to normal levels. This was done at the request of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

“All manufacturers of printed products are very grateful to us and to retail chains, all without exception, for the fact that indeed those who began to reduce the assortment have restored everything and printed media have returned to sale in full. Even those trades who had not worked with the printed press before began to do so,” said Evtukhov.

The general director of the company “Newspapers Wholesale” (a distributor of newspaper and magazine products in Kaliningrad and the region), Victoria Stozhko, told Klops that deliveries to the stores of the Pyaterochka chain will begin in May. SPAR, Victoria, Pobeda, Kvartal, Deshevo, Semya, Kant, Gorodok and Brusnichka already have periodicals.

“We must pay tribute to the retail industry in the Kaliningrad region – newspapers and magazines have always been sold there. The history of our cooperation is long and truly partnership. <...> We hope that other regional networks will join this important process. Historically, Kaliningrad residents have had an increased interest in newspapers. This is a regional feature, and it is visible in the sales statistics of federal media in comparison with other Russian cities,” she said.

Stozhko emphasized that the problem with the availability of print media in the region “has been and remains quite real.” The reason is the reduction in the number of specialized kiosks.

“For many, this is an understandable and familiar way of purchasing newspapers. Such pavilions are usually located in convenient places – “along the flow of daily life.” And the representation of newspapers and magazines at such points is maximum, and this is important,” Stozhko said.
