Moscow. April 24. INTERFAX.RU – The Russian government and the Russian Foreign Ministry are actively working to resolve the situation with Turkish Airlines’ refusal to allow Russians on transit flights to Latin America, said presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“The problem is mainly on the Turkish side. Here, without waiting for contacts at the highest level, our diplomatic department is working very actively, our government is actively working, which tirelessly talks about the unacceptability of such a situation for us, for Russian citizens. Our embassy in Ankara is working,” – he said at a briefing, commenting on the situation.

He was asked whether President Vladimir Putin plans to discuss this issue with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“We have very constructive and friendly relations with the Turkish side. We will use these relations to solve those problems that, unfortunately, inevitably arise,” Peskov replied. “The friendly nature of relations (with Turkey) allows us to count on the settlement of all such questions.”

In April, media reported that Turkish Airlines began to remove individual Russian tourists from transit flights to Latin America when connecting in Istanbul.

The Russian embassy in Ankara reported on April 22 that the problem with Russians being denied boarding on this airline’s flights when connecting in Istanbul has existed for several weeks, and called the problem serious. According to diplomats, Turkish Airlines employees “give different reasons, but basically it all comes down to the fact that supposedly the destination countries have established strict rules for the admission of Russian citizens to their states” and among such requirements they name “the availability of a return ticket, cash, confirmation of a hotel reservation , in the case of a purpose of travel other than tourism – relevant supporting documents.” Russian diplomats contacted the airline and the Turkish Foreign Ministry regarding this problem and recommended that passengers from Russia complain in such situations to the embassy in Ankara and the consulate general in Istanbul.

On April 23, Turkish Airlines published a Russian translation of a memo for transit passengers from Russia flying to Latin America.
