Merenkov was tried by a jury, and testimony against him was given by Wagner PMC fighter Artem Bezmen, a former bodyguard of the group’s leader Sergei Neverov.

According to the prosecutor’s office of the Samara region, by the verdict of the Samara regional court, based on the verdict of the jury, the citizen was convicted of participation in a criminal community, participation in a gang, robbery and preparation for murder in a generally dangerous manner.

“On March 26, 2024, the jury unanimously returned a guilty verdict against the defendant. The court found that since 2001 the defendant had been a member of one of the gangs that was part of the criminal community created by S.N. Neverov. and engaged in the physical elimination of competitors, protection racket, extortion, raider takeovers of enterprises,” the supervisory agency reports.

The court, taking into account the opinion of the state prosecutor, sentenced the defendant to 18 years of imprisonment to be served in a maximum security penal colony.

According to OBOZ.INFO, the convicted person is Dmitry Merenkov, whose testimony was given in the trial in the fall of 2023 given by Artem Bezmen, a fighter of the Wagner PMC, a former security guard of the leader of the organized crime group Sergei Neverov. According to the State Automated Information System “Justice”, Merenkov’s sentence was announced on April 23, 2024.

Convict Dmitry Merenkov is one of the participants in the assassination attempt on Togliatti businessman Oleg Zaguzov, which occurred in October 2013. The crime was very loud, since the killers spying on Zaguzov were themselves shot at the Togliatti USK “Olympus” by two unknown men with machine guns. As a result, Sergei Petrov, a native of the Ulyanovsk region, died, and his fellow countryman Dmitry Levin lost his leg.

Zaguzov and his driver Vyacheslav Kurganov were detained on suspicion of shooting Ulyanovsk killers, but were released fairly soon. But Levin and his accomplice Alexei Shkaev were eventually convicted of preparing contract killings of Sergei Neverov’s opponents. Based on the testimony of the Ulyanovsk killers, the head of their unit, Sergei Ageev, was detained. Later, Ageev made a deal with the investigation and became the main exposer of the crimes of both Sergei Neverov himself and his subordinates. Thanks to Ageev, many high-profile crimes of past years were solved. He is now serving time in a colony in Omsk.

The security forces reached Dmitry Merenkov only recently – according to the investigation, on the eve of the assassination attempt, he tracked Zaguzov’s movements and collected information about him.
