Despite the fact that mass street events in the Volgograd region were canceled for the May holidays, cultural institutions prepared an interesting program for residents of the region.
Museum-Reserve Old Sarepta
April 27 – Saxophone concert “Argentine Tango”
Tango-style music will be played in the ancient dungeon of “Old Sarepta”. Unusual setting, dim lighting, flickering candles and incredible acoustics. For sophisticated listeners, a saxophone will sound. The maestro will present popular musical compositions of this genre.

Volgograd Regional Museum of Local Lore
April 25 – thematic excursion “Tsaritsyn banker”. 12+
Guests will enter the real vault of the Volzhsko-Kama Bank, see authentic exhibits, and hear the history of the banking system in Tsaritsyn. They will find out what the monetary system was like in the Russian Empire 150-100 years ago and how money was kept in the depths of the bank.
April 26 – lecture “Chernobyl. Chronicle of a tragedy.” 12+
About the largest man-made disaster in human history, which happened in 1986 near Gomel. A researcher will talk about the terrible events, the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident and its consequences. Guests will see exhibits from the museum’s collections – documents, photographs and personal belongings of the accident liquidators.
April 27 – event “Life and traditions of the Russian people.” 6+
Museum visitors will get acquainted with the history and culture of the Russian people and see ancient household items. In a playful way they learn about rituals, folk holidays and fun.
April 28 – event “Traditions of raising boys and girls in a Cossack family.” 6+
It will be held in the exhibition hall “Like Beyond the Don, Beyond the River.” Cossack household items will be presented here. Guests will learn about the life and way of life of a traditional Don Cossack family: about family games, songs, holidays, cuisine (its dishes, recipes and cooking methods), customs and unspoken laws. And also about raising children – the basis of the morality of the Cossack class.
April 30 – lecture “May Day in Tsaritsyn”. 12+
About the history of the holiday and the first May Day in Tsaritsyn, about May Day as a holiday of working class solidarity, and May 1 in Russia a century later.
