Fraudsters issued a loan in the amount of more than 2.4 million rubles to a resident of the Chelyabinsk region, promising earnings on investments, reports the correspondent of the Access News Agency.
A 53-year-old crane operator from Troitsk fell for the scammers’ trick.
The man told the police that he had become a victim of fraud on an investment platform. After he left the request, a “financial specialist” got in touch.
Under the pretext of participating in a profitable investment project, the fraudster introduced the resident to the principles of operation of stock exchanges, convincing him of the opportunity to make a large profit from the acquisition and subsequent sale of shares.
“Without doubting the veracity of the stranger’s words, the victim followed the link sent and installed an investment application on his smartphone. Following the instructions, he transferred 3 thousand rubles to purchase shares, and soon received a message about “earnings” of more than 18 thousand dollars. However, the joy from the expected profit did not last long. After some time, the “financial specialist” stopped answering calls, and the victim’s phone began to receive SMS messages from various banks about money transfers,” commented the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.
Concerned about the current situation, the man went to Chelyabinsk, to a branch of one of the banks, where he was horrified to discover that a loan in the amount of more than 2.4 million rubles had been issued in his name.
