On April 24, an open dialogue with representatives of traditional religions – Orthodoxy and Islam – took place at the Coordination Center for Countering the Ideology of Terrorism and Extremism at Kurgan State University.

The speakers of the meeting were the senior priest of the Epiphany Cathedral in the city of Kurgan, Priest Andrei Zamyatin, and the chairman of the Kurgan city religious organization of Muslims, Imam Ziyodeli Mizrobov.

The event was also attended by Evgeny Cherdakov, head of the department for interaction with public and religious associations of the Department of Information and Internal Policy of the Kurgan Region

The participants of the meeting, which was dedicated to the issues of countering terrorism and extremism on the part of religions, were students from the Kurgan Institute of Railway Transport and Kurgan State University.

In his speech, Priest Andrei Zamyatin said that the Russian Orthodox Church opposes terrorism. “The reasons for the spread of terrorism and extremism lie not just in the lack of education and anger of people, but in spiritual ignorance and ignorance of the Gospel“- emphasized Father Andrey.

We are united by the fact that we are a single Russian nation“- this is how the Imam of the Kurgan Cathedral Mosque Ziyodeli Mizrobov began his speech. The imam also noted that terrorism and extremism have nothing to do with Islam: “All religions call for peace and harmony. We are against terrorism

The children actively participated in the dialogue and asked questions to the invited guests. Students were interested in learning how today’s youth are involved in religion and how to strengthen this involvement.

The coordination center for countering the ideology of terrorism and extremism has been operating at Kurgan State University since December 6, 2023. Its goal is to develop a civic position among young people, prevent interethnic conflicts, counter the ideology of terrorism and prevent extremism.
