On April 23, the department for educational work together with the coordination center of the ASU, within the framework of the discussion platform “Open Dialogue,” held an event on the topic: “Terrorism is a threat to society.” The head of the Coordination Center Sergei Karmazin acted as a speaker with a presentation “History of Terrorism”.

During the event, students were familiarized with a complete description of the emergence of terrorism in the world and a listing of high-profile terrorist acts of our time. Students learned the difference between the concepts of “terrorist act” and “act of terrorism”: “An act of terrorism is a specific action, such as an explosion or arson, that threatens human life and causes property damage, with the aim of disrupting the activities of government authorities or international organizations. An act of terrorism is a broader concept that includes both terrorist acts and the threat of their commission, for which criminal liability is provided under the legislation of the Russian Federation.” During his speech, Sergei Karmazin showed students materials on the history of terrorism from ancient Rome to the present.

In addition, the event touched upon the topic of Russophobia. After all, Russophobia is a type of political and cultural extremism, which in turn can develop into a terrorist ideology that calls for the destruction of the Russian-speaking population, including those living abroad. In the modern information war against Russia, one of the main tasks is to instill anti-Russian and anti-Russian sentiments. For a more detailed consideration of this issue, the head of the CC showed a documentary film about the spread of Russophobia in Western countries.

The film tells the story that it is becoming dangerous for Russians to live in Europe. Ordinary people, embassy employees, and most importantly, the most vulnerable members of society—children—are subject to insults, persecution, and threats to life and health. The authors of the film met with compatriots living abroad, talked with members of diplomatic missions, as well as with representatives of European society who do not share the point of view of their governments and are sure that in order to end conflicts, we need to build bridges, not build walls.

At the end of the event, Sergei Karmazin wished students to remain vigilant so as not to fall under the influence of destructive forces.
