The Irkutsk authorities preferred autonomous trolleybuses to electric buses. About the situation with public transport During the report on work in 2023, the mayor of Irkutsk spoke Ruslan Bolotov.
He said that today in Irkutsk there are more than 1,000 units of urban transport, which are mainly owned by private companies. The head of the city also recalled that 80 buses were purchased last year. In just two years, 126 new buses were purchased.
“But residents are asking for more, and the next stage is the modernization of Gorelektrotrans,” the mayor noted.
He noted that the operating experience of the new Admiral trolleybus is currently being assessed, on the basis of which a decision will be made on updating the fleet. In addition, last year we purchased two new tram bodies. This decision was considered successful, since it cost twice as much as a new tram.
After the report, Ruslan Bolotov answered questions from Duma deputies based on the results of the report, in particular, about the stage at which plans to send electric transport to the Leninsky district:
– First of all, we chose the bus fleet for renovation, since this transport service covers all areas of the city. We are currently working on autonomous electric transport options. But the previously considered electric bus is twice as expensive as a trolleybus, plus infrastructure such as charging stations. We came to the conclusion that the optimal solution would be a trolleybus with autonomous operation, which is detached from the wires, runs on an accumulated charge, and then clings to the wires again and is recharged. We decided to go this route.
The head of the city said that Irkutsk is preparing an application for the supply of trams under the national project in 2025. In addition, it is planned to ask to include the city this year in the federal program for the purchase of trolleybuses with autonomous operation.
