Source: GUMP press service Annual memory event “St. George Ribbon“, timed to coincide with the celebration of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, started and will run until May 9. Millions of ribbons will be passed from hand to hand by Victory Volunteers throughout Russia and abroad. In Chelyabinsk, volunteers started the action on the pedestrian part of Kirova Street, reports the press service of the region’s main youth department.
“In 2024, about 50 volunteers from our movement will actively take part in distributing ribbons throughout the region. For several years now, we have been distributing a military symbol along with a leaflet with information about the history of the ribbon and recommendations for wearing it. We recommend wearing a memorial sign on your chest, close to your heart. You should not place the St. George ribbon on the sleeves of clothing, headdresses or on the straps of backpacks. The St. George Ribbon is a symbol of demonstrating memory and respect for our great-grandfathers who fought for the Fatherland.” – noted the deputy head of the regional branch of “Victory Volunteers” Ekaterina Magnitova .
In Chelyabinsk, volunteers will give more than 10 thousand symbols of Victory to residents. The distribution of ribbons will take place on April 26 at the sites of the International Historical Action “Victory Dictation” at the Public Support Headquarters and in the Public Library, on May 3 on the pedestrian part of Kirova Street, where the “Letter of Victory” action will begin, and at the parade on May 9.
The idea of the St. George Ribbon campaign was born in 2005 within the walls of the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency. Since then, tying a ribbon on the eve of May 9 has become a tradition that has united millions of people not only in Russia, but also abroad. Since 2015, the All-Russian public movement “Volunteers of Victory” has been a partner and one of the main organizers of the action. Also partners of the action are JSC Russian Railways, MIA “Russia today“and the Rospatriot program of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).
