The start of the fire danger period this year in the southern and central regions of the republic is predicted for May 10, in the northern – from May 20, the head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov said at a meeting of the regional government.

“Karelia went through last year’s fire season very confidently in all respects. They are one of the best of the last 10 years. Compared to the five-year average, the number of fires in 2023 decreased by 2 times, and their total area by 13 times. Of course, this does not give us any reason to relax. Nature has been giving us surprises lately. Therefore, we must be as prepared as possible, including for the threat of forest fires,” said Artur Parfenchikov.
