At a meeting of the regional anti-terrorism commission, which was chaired by the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, Alexander Tsybulsky, they discussed measures to identify and prevent threats of terrorist acts during the May holidays in Pomorie, as well as the security of places of public gathering.

Commemorative and festive events dedicated to Spring and Labor Day, as well as the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, including festive concerts, flower laying, ceremonial passage of military crews, athletics relay races and races, the work of field kitchens, will be held in all municipalities of the region in traditional format.

According to preliminary estimates, about 150 thousand northerners will take part in the festive events. The regional government, together with the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Arkhangelsk Region and other law enforcement agencies, is implementing a whole range of measures aimed at ensuring law and order and public safety for residents of the region during the celebrations.

Thanks to the coordinated actions of law enforcement agencies and the developed algorithm for joint actions to respond to anonymous reports of impending terrorist attacks, the functioning of social institutions is not disrupted.

“Particular attention is paid to ensuring anti-terrorist protection of places where people gather in large numbers, educational institutions, cultural centers, sports, religious facilities, as well as health care institutions,” noted Dmitry Ostapenko, head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Arkhangelsk Region. – This work is carried out to prevent attempts by various kinds of extremist groups and destructive forces to commit illegal acts, including those related to the desecration of objects of military glory and committing acts of vandalism.

The locations of the festive events will also be inspected to prevent mining, detect and neutralize explosive devices with the involvement of canine specialists with service dogs from the canine service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and employees of the engineering and technical department of the OMON of the Russian Guard, with the subsequent transfer of the objects to the police.

Taking into account the planned long weekends, special control will be exercised over bus transportation of organized groups of children and mass trips outside populated areas.

To ensure the safety of objects of military glory and memorial sites, which are eternal symbols of the Great Victory, additional measures will be taken to protect them around the clock by police forces from May 1 to May 12, 2024.

During the meeting, they also discussed the state of anti-terrorist protection of social facilities in the Arkhangelsk region and issues of improving activities to protect the information space from the spread of the ideology of terrorism, ideas of neo-Nazism and various destructive manifestations, reports the press service of the Governor and Government of the Arkhangelsk region.
