Don Rospotrebnadzor will open a hotline for the prevention of tick-borne encephalitis

Rostov region, April 25, 2024. DON24.RU. Exercises to practice preventive measures when identifying a cholera patient were held in Rostov. According to legend, as the website of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor reports, the patient arrived from abroad on a ship to the seaport of the Don capital.

“During the exercise, an algorithm for notification and interdepartmental interaction between medical organizations and services of the city of Rostov-on-Don was developed with the involvement of the Federal Service of the National Guard of the Russian Federation in the Rostov Region,” the source reports.

The implementation of biological safety rules during the collection of biological samples and their delivery to the laboratory was also practiced.

Cholera is a particularly dangerous infection. Patients suffer from vomiting and diarrhea, causing severe, even fatal, dehydration. Infection most often occurs through contaminated water or food. Flies can also spread the infection. Cholera is most common in Africa, South America, India and Southeast Asia. According to scientists, there have been seven cholera pandemics in the world. The first of them occurred in 1816–1824, the last in 1961–1975.

Currently, with timely medical care, patients recover. A cholera vaccine has also been registered in Russia, which provides immunity in 95% of cases. The vaccine is given to people who are planning to travel to regions where the disease is widespread.

By the way, a cyclical rise in the incidence of measles has been recorded in the Rostov region.
