The memory of Alexander Untilov was honored in Kaluga – Kaluga Week newspaper

On Thursday, April 25, flowers were laid at the memorial plaque of the Honorary Citizen of the city of Kaluga, participant in the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Yakovlevich Untilov.

The liberator of our region died in 2019, a month and a half short of his 100th birthday.
Alexander Untilov worked until the end of his life at the Veterans Council. He made a huge contribution to the development of the veteran movement and the patriotic education of the younger generation.

Alexander Yakovlevich went through the entire war. He took part in battles on Kaluga soil, fought near Kursk, in Belarus and the Baltic states, and participated in the war with Japan. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, First Class (1985), the Order of the Red Star, the medal “For the Defense of Moscow,” and the badge “Excellence in the Railway Troops.” In 2015, he was awarded the anniversary medal “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945” – the medal was presented to him and 30 other veterans in the St. George’s Hall of the Kremlin personally by the country’s President Vladimir Putin. In 2009, Alexander Yakovlevich was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Kaluga.”

His colleagues and friends came to the People’s House to honor the memory of Alexander Untilov. Among them are the Head of the City Government Yuri Moiseev, the Chairman of the Kaluga City Council of War and Labor Veterans Evgeniy Yankelevich and members of the Veterans Council, the Honor Guard of Post No. 1 of School No. 23, representatives of the Youth Army, various public organizations and city residents.

— Alexander Yakovlevich was a wise, competent, courteous, well-mannered, intelligent person. It’s really a great honor for me that I knew him not only through work, but also through life, that Alexander Yakovlevich devoted his precious time to me,” said Yuri Moiseev. – For veterans and all the people who surrounded Alexander Yakovlevich, he was an indisputable authority. Such people must be remembered. Young Kaluga residents need to know about them. Without being born in Kaluga, Alexander Yakovlevich became a truly native Kaluga resident.
