--

On April 25, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government, a native of the Chelyabinsk region, Viktor Khristenko presented the final part of his photo exhibition “+/− 90” in Chelyabinsk. Khristenko told stories about the subjects of his photographs taken during trips to the Russian outback.

“At the final part of the personal photo exhibition “I See So,” Khristenko presented photographs of residents of the Russian outback, aged about 90 years. He showed a series of portraits “+/− 90” to Governor Alexei Teksler, telling the story of each of the heroes of his works,” a URA.RU correspondent reports from the exhibition.

Khristenko shared that the initial idea was to call the series of photographs “Departing Nature,” but by the end of work on the collection it acquired the name “+/− 90.” He devoted two years to the expedition to remote villages and hamlets of Russia. It was important for the author to touch the everyday life of people with a difficult fate, living in the outback all their lives.

An exhibition of Khristenko’s photographs has been open in Chelyabinsk since March 8. For almost two months, the exhibition was supplemented by new photo stories. Before the final part, visitors were presented with the Spanish series “Being a Bullfighter” (March 8), dedicated to the life of the Andalusian matador Pepin Liria, “The City” (March 26) and “People” (April 9), with reports from European countries, as well as Russia and the USA.

The politician became acquainted with the art of photography at the age of five, when he took the first photograph in his life. The hobby became his passion, but for the first time Khristenko showed his work at the age of 66. The author put up each of the presented works for sale, and he plans to use the funds from the sale to support Chelyabinsk scientists and students.

Khristenko’s political career began in 1990, when he was elected to the Chelyabinsk City Council. From 1991 to 1996, he served as Chelyabinsk vice-governor, and since 1997 he was the presidential envoy to the region. In the same year, he became Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister, and from February 24 to March 5, 2004, he served as head of the Russian government. Then he headed the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, handing over this position in February 2012 to Denis Manturov.
