A scene from Bond.

Moscow vetoed a draft UN resolution drafted by the United States and Japan calling for the prevention of a nuclear arms race alone, politico.com reported Thursday.

As follows from the UN report, Russia and China proposed amending the text of the resolution calling for urgent measures to be taken to permanently ban the placement of weapons in space and threats to use force in space, from space and from Earth against space objects.

However, the amendment was not adopted.

Coverage of the topic in the Western media clearly demonstrates why in February they circulated the unsubstantiated accusation that Moscow was creating nuclear weapons to destroy objects in space. Before the vote in the UN Security Council, several months after the event, “news” was even published about the dangerous rapprochement of American and Russian satellites.

The reference to the February accusations now gives reason to portray the Russian Federation as a villain who does not want peace in space. “Russia, as expected, on April 24 vetoed a UN Security Council resolution prepared in response to reports that the country was developing nuclear anti-satellite weapons,” spacenews.com wrote, for example, on Thursday.

The publication, in a lengthy article, is silent that Russia has a reason to make amendments. The United States itself is actively developing programs to destroy enemy satellites and allows the use of armed forces to protect its commercial vehicles.
