A medical psychologist named 5 rules for coping with stress at work

Head of the Department of Medical and Psychological Care, Medical Psychologist Samara Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital Arina Kamyshanskaya:

“Stress is a normal physiological and psychological reaction of the body to any strong stimulus. It arises not only due to negative factors, but also in general due to high loads, high levels of tension or the number of tasks, including those positively assessed by a person.

It is not always possible to avoid stressful situations, especially at work. But every person has the power to learn to cope with them.

What is important to do?

Review your workload and prioritize tasks. Follow your resolution plan, lower your productivity expectations, and don’t compare yourself to others.

Restore your energy levels. Normalize your sleep, work and rest schedule, healthy eating and exercise.

Switch things up. Leave thoughts about work at your workplace and take a full restorative rest on weekends. Turn off your gadgets and spend time in the real world.

Do something enjoyable after work. Read a book, take a walk, chat with friends.

Take a break. Give yourself time to recognize and process unpleasant emotions. Enlist the support of your loved ones and, if necessary, consult a specialist.”
